Luminary - Delft, at the RBS Gallery London 2004

”Delft” was a site-specific installation made as my contribution to the

two-man exhibition ”Slight credulities” (with Kurt Johannessen),

at RBS Gallery in London, June and July 2004.

My point of departure was a fireplace in the ”Salon” room in the gallery.

The fireplace was decorated with very beautiful original Delft tiles.

In the fireplace I placed a gass bunsen burner, and on the floor

facing this I aranged a semi-circle of six small simply made boat forms.

The boats were all differently constructed, but each has a white

cardboard propeller.

A video-projection of my nine year old son practicing his piano

was projected onto a white sheet hung from the ceiling.

Every so often, the piano player stops, turns and holds a

small mirror up towards the gallery room. As he does this, the

propellers on the boats are activated, and they blow air onto the

crudely made sails of the boats, causing them to flap gently.
