Breath Mirror at Kaleidoscope Centre, Sevenoaks 2006

”Breath Mirror” 2006

Public art work in the Local studies room,

Kaleidoscope Centre, Sevenoaks, Kent U.K

Roddy Bell was one of 6 artists commissioned to create

public art works for the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope Project:

the redevelopment of Sevenoaks Library, Gallery and Museum.

For the Sevenoaks Kaleidoscope commission, Roddy Bell

has created ‘Breath Mirror’ – a work involving video

projection which will create an interaction between the

museum, the library and the public who will use these facilities.

The projection on the "breath mirror" is based on

historical documentary  film archive material
from the county of Kent

(courtesy of Brighton University Film and Video archive).

This is a breath mirror, - reflecting ourselves as we were

through the water particles of our breathing.

The breath of those who use this room is transformed

by an air de-humidifier, into a water tank.

At intervals, the water is pumped up to a small tank,

and an ultrasonic water mister transforms and fans the

mist through tubes to the projection frame.
